I am so sick of hearing Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Bill O'Reilly and all the other right-wingers whine about the response from Jan Egeland, the U.N. emergency relief coordinator who last week suggested that Western nations are "stingy" with support for tsunami victims. At the time Egeland made that comment, I think it important to point out, our president was on another one of those famous vacations ... and the official word from the US was that we would give $15 million (compared to the nearly $700 million Germany was ponying up). Since that comment, we upped our contribution to $35 million - then multiplied that by ten to $350 million. It seems to me like our government agreed that maybe $15 million was stingy. And yet the pundits continue to whine. BTW, the new Dialog poll is on this topic. Go vote.
