Weekly update ...
News, notes and necessities items of interest the week of Feb. 16, 2009 an occasional update from me, Scott Leffler |
|
News:
Monday: Matt Pearl should be in for his weekly visit on WECK and Bob Confer on WLVL. It'll be nice to talk to both of them, as I took a sick day last Monday. I plan to avoid and ignore commentary from the plane crash as much as possible. After Friday and a weekend full of news about it, I need some happier thoughts. Maybe I'll google "bird attacks" for material.
Tuesday: We'll touch base with someone from WNYMedia.net at 10:15 a.m. on WECK. And we'll have a free-fer-all on WLVL.
Friday: Noah Gokey will be my guest on Music Friday on WECK ... and Tim Marren from the Union-Sun & Journal will be my guest on Dialog.
Notes: There's no Scholastic Bowl this week on WLVL for a second straight week as many of the kids have "mid-winter" break or something like that.
Here's a funny from the blog:
Necessities: If you've got a twisted sense of humor like I do, check out FMyLife.com ... it's highly entertaining and is certain to put a smile on your face. Caution, it's filled with adult themes.
I sent this to you because I thought you might appreciate it. If I was wrong, please just respond and ask to be taken off the mailing list. I'll take care of it. If this was forwarded to you and you'd like to receive future updates, please email scott@scottleffler.com and ask to be added to the list. I'll make that happen.

Chris Lee skips stimulus vote to take care of district
He opposed the far-too-expensive, runaway bailout program ... as did I. And he voted against it in the house.
But when it came time to vote for the final package, his district needed him more than the House of Representatives did. And Congressman Lee skipped the vote to console his constituents following the crash of flight 3407.
From the NY Daily News:
Freshman Rep. Chris Lee, one of just three Republican members of the delegation, was one of three members listed as "not voting" on the roll call for the bill. (The others were Rep. James Clyburn, of South Carolina, and Rep. John Campbell, of California).
But Lee had a very good excuse for missing what is arguably one of the most important votes taken by the 111th Congress so far this year - he lives just two miles from the site of the Flight 3407 crash and also lost a family friend in the tragedy.

News:
Monday: Normally Monday's are the day for Matt Pearl on WECK and Bob Confer on WLVL. But I'm a bit under the weather as I type this, so Christina Apt (host of BuffaloStyle) and Loraine O'Donnell (WECK morning show host) will be filling in for me on WECK. Meanwhile, over on WLVL, the role of Scott Leffler will be played by Neil Boortz.
Tuesday: Assuming I'm back from illness, I'll talk with someone from WNYMedia.net at 10:15 a.m. on WECK. And we'll have a free-fer-all on WLVL.
Wednesday: The montly visit from the Niagara County Historical Society on Dialog.
Friday: Music Friday on WECK.
Notes: There's no Scholastic Bowl this week on WLVL
I uploaded several old photos to my facebook page. Want to see 'em? We have to be facebook friends first. :)
Necessities: If you missed the commercials during last night's game ... or just want to watch them again, they're all available at Hulu.com ...

Fun with math ...
Please listen all the way through. It's hilarious.
Reason show notes for Feb. 4, 2009 ...
Of course, that depends on whether the stimulus package ever materializes. It's hung up in the senate and house republicans voted unanimously against it, including my congressman, Chris Lee. He's taking some flak for that ... but not from me. I agree with Chris on this one. Spending money we don't have on things we don't need doesn't seem like a good way to fix the economy.
Then, of course, New York State has its own budget problems, which the Democrats claim to have fixed.
Of course, when Democrats talk about money, I get worried. They can't even seem to figure out how to pay their taxes.
